I
am pleased that you have decided to pursue the traditional
martial art of Tang Soo Do, and wish you the best
in your endeavors.
I
formed the Hwa Rang World Tang Soo Do Federation in
1994 because I saw the necessity of an association
that not only emphasized Tang Soo Do technique, but
the virtues of faithfulness, perseverance, and honesty
as well. My wish for my students and the members of
this federation is that they will not only grow in
their Tang Soo Do Technique, but also in their personal
and spiritual lives.
We
are seeking to develop the body in conjunction with
the mind, not for its own sake, but for the benefit
for others. When one has good physical and mental health,
he or she can be more dedicated to the family, the Nation,
and even the World. Tang Soo Do can and should be a
way of thought and life, in which one puts aside himself
for the good of everyone around him.
Tang
Soo Do is not a sport. Though it is not essentially
competitive, it has great combat applications. As
a classical martial art, its purpose is to develop
every aspect of the self, in order to create a mature
person who totally integrates his/her intellect, body,
emotions, and spirit. This integration helps to create
a person who is free from inner conflict and who can
deal with the outside world.
I can only guide you in your study of Tang Soo Do.
In the end, it is you that will achieve your goals.
If you want to be a Great Warrior, you must be willing
to sacrifice the time and effort to reach it. Do not
just attend class, but analyze the techniques, dissect
the movements. "Perfect practice makes perfect,''
and perfection only comes if you work for it. If you
are willing to dedicate yourself to the study of Tang
Soo Do, you will reap the physical, spiritual, and
mental benefits that come along with it.
Best
wishes,
Grand
